My President is Black

Posted by Matthew in ,

With the inauguration of Barack Obama yesterday and all ensuing parties that followed; there was bound to be some video worthy stuff happening. In between Kanye, Beyonce and all the other people who were in Washington to kick off Obama's presidency someone happened to record Jay-Z performing a song called " My President is Black" . It's pretty cool with a hook that goes something like this ....

"My president's black, in fact, he's half white/ So even in a racist's mind he's half right/ Even in these racist times it's all right/ My president is black but his house is all white."

Jay-Z stops to wait for the crowd noise to die down a bit to make sure everyone can hear his verses. Anyways I hope all of you had a nice one and got to take time out to watch coverage of the historical day we had.

New Music Review: Jupiter One

Posted by Matthew in ,

Lately I’ve been doing “New Music Tuesday” and the response has been, to my surprise, overwhelming. With the onslaught of cookie cutter bands who can barely play their instruments much less sing in the right key its hard to find a something to get excited enough to write about. This week I featured Jupiter One , a little interstellar four piece form New York. With production by Nic Hard (The Church, The Bravery) their songs are sonically pleasing and at times anthemic with hooks that I find myself singing after the first listen. Ok so yeah its a good album...but could these guys actually pull it off live? Fast forward to: 5 pitchers of beer with the band while waiting for the opening acts to finish up. I thought there was no way in their drunken state they could pull this off! They did. My girl threw up. I drove home.(anticlimactic ending)

Funniest SNL Weekend Update in YEARS!

I was watching this at work and started laughing out loud at my desk. I had to pull off my headphones to stop so people wouldn't start wondering what I was doing. This is also Amy Poehler's last SNL show!

Slummin' It

Last night I skipped exercising in favor of sushi followed by a viewing of "Slumdog Millionaire". I am sure by now most of you have heard of it if not seen it already. It is a wonderful film that keeps you fully entertained the entire way. Not only do you get a great movie but a very well done soundtrack by A.R Rahman to boot. To be honest the reason I enjoyed the music so much was because of the collaboration with M.I.A.  My favorite song from the film "O...Saya" plays during the opening scene of the slum kids running from the police. It's an awesome song but I wish there was just more M.I.A singing on it! Take a listen people.
